Scouting in Rockville Centre since 1914

Adventure, friendship, and leadership, one campout at a time.

Troop 40 is a Scout-led troop for boys, sponsored by United Church of RVC, where Scouts learn to camp, hike, cook, lead, and serve their community. We've been doing it for more than a century, and there's room around the campfire for you.

What we do

Scouting is learning by doing. Our Scouts plan their own trips, earn merit badges, and gain real skills they'll use for life.

The troop meets on Tuesday evenings throughout the school year, at either Wilson Elementary School or United Church of RVC, both in Rockville Centre.

Hiking & Camping

Monthly campouts and day hikes all year round, from fall foliage trips to winter cabin weekends.

Service Projects

Food drives, park cleanups, and Eagle Scout projects that give back to Rockville Centre.

Rank & Merit Badges

A clear path from Scout to Eagle, with dozens of merit badges in everything from first aid to robotics.

Leadership

Scouts run the troop. They lead patrols, plan meetings, and teach younger Scouts.

Summer Camp

A week at Onteora Scout Reservation

Every summer we head to Onteora in the Catskills for a week of swimming, canoeing, archery, rifle and shotgun shooting, merit badge classes, and campfires under the stars. For many of our Scouts it's the highlight of the year.

About Onteora

What Scouting builds

The skills last well beyond the campsite.

  • Confidence. Trying new things and finding out they can do hard things.
  • Character. Living the Scout Oath and Law every day.
  • Self-reliance. Cooking, navigating, first aid, and being prepared.
  • Friendship. Lifelong bonds made on the trail and around the fire.
  • Citizenship. Serving their town, their country, and each other.
  • Leadership. Real responsibility, with adult mentors to back them up.
